GAPKI: 2025 Projected Indonesian Palm Oil Production 53.6 million tons
The Indonesian Palm Oil Association (GAPKI) estimates that Indonesia's palm oil production will reach 53.6 million tons by 2025. This was conveyed by GAPKI Chairman Eddy Martono during a press conference on Thursday (March 6, 2025) in Jakarta.
Eddy said that by considering the trend of domestic production and consumption, especially the policy on the use of biodiesel, as well as considering the trend of world vegetable oil prices and supply and demand.
“Indonesia's palm oil production is estimated to reach 53.6 million tons, consumption is estimated to reach 26.1 million tons including 13.6 million tons for B40 biodiesel. With this forecast, exports are expected to drop to 27.5 million tons, lower than exports in 2024 of 29.5 million tons,” he said.
This is also based on the performance of the palm oil industry ranging from production, consumption to exports in December 2024. It was noted that in terms of crude palm oil (CPO) production in December 2024 reached 3,876 thousand tons, 10.55% lower than the production in November 2024 which reached 4,333 thousand tons.
Meanwhile, palm kernel oil (PKO) production also decreased to 361 thousand tons from 412 thousand tons in November 2024. “Thus, CPO production in 2024 reached 48,164 thousand tons while PKO amounted to 4,598 thousand tons. In total, CPO and PKO production in 2024 reached 52,762 thousand tons, 3.80% lower than the previous year's production of 54,844 thousand tons,” he explained.
In terms of CPO and PKO consumption in December 2024 reached 2,187 thousand tons, higher than the consumption in November which reached 2,030 thousand tons. The increase in consumption occurred for food, biodiesel and oleochemicals.
“In total in 2024, consumption for food reached 10,205 thousand tons, 0.90% lower than the 2023 consumption of 10,298 thousand tons, oleochemical consumption of 2,207 thousand tons, 2.69% lower than 2,268 thousand tons in 2023. Meanwhile, consumption for biodiesel is 11,447 thousand tons, 7.51% higher than 10,647 thousand tons in 2023, so that the total consumption in 2024 is 23,859 thousand tons, which is 2.78% higher than the consumption in 2023 of 23,213 thousand tons,” Eddy said.
Furthermore, in terms of exports in December 2024 reached 2,060 thousand tons, 21.88% lower than exports in November 2023 of 2,637 thousand tons. “In detail, the biggest decline occurred in exports to India by 246 thousand tons, followed by China by 39 thousand tons. On an annual basis, there was a decrease in exports by 2,680 thousand tons, from 32,215 thousand tons in 2023 to 29,535 thousand tons,” said Eddy.
