Indonesia needs 5.3 million tons of CPO for 50% palm oil diesel by 2026
The Ministry of Agriculture estimates that Indonesia needs 5.3 million tons of Crude Palm Oil (CPO) to realize palm oil-blended diesel fuel or 50% biodiesel (B50). The production is targeted to be ready by 2026.
Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman said Indonesia has currently reached B35% fuel. To jump to B50, 5.3 million CPO is needed.
“To reach B35, jump to B50, we need 5.3 million tons (of CPO). We will process it next year, hopefully by 2026 at the latest,” Amran said at the Ministry of Agriculture Office, Tuesday (22/10/2024).
Before B50, the Indonesian government is also preparing for B40. Amran ensured that B40 could be implemented in January 2025. Even so, preparations for B50 are being done in parallel with the preparation of B40. “We have designed B50 biodiesel, January B40 is already running. We are designing B50 first because we have enough materials,” he said.
Amran also ensured that RI's CPO supply is still sufficient. Indonesia itself has a CPO export quota of 26 million tons. According to him, part of this portion can be used for B50.
“Our CPO production is 46 million tons. Now domestically we use 20 million tons, we export 26 million tons. If we take 5.3 million tons, then there is no problem, right? Because we export 26 million tons. We reduce according to domestic needs, we prioritize domestic,” he said.
Likewise with the processing plant, he also ensured its readiness. The next homework (PR) is to increase its capacity. “Now it has started in January 2025, it (production) is B40. Hopefully it can be faster, the factory capacity is enough for B50,” Amran said.
